Here's what some of our locals have said about our work

2018

“The Whakatane Surf Life Saving Club is indebted to the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament for its support of the Club and therefore the Whakatane and Eastern Bay community.

The funding will be used to help keep the club’s first response rescue equipment up to date. This equipment is vital in the club’s mission which is to keep Ohope Beach safe and aligns with its value of keeping our community safe.

The WSLSC would not be able to continue to operate effectively without the support of organisations such as the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament.

We wholeheartedly thank you for your support”

Hamish Reid - President, Whakatane Surf Life Saving Club.

2017

"On behalf of the Eastern Bay of Plenty Riding for the Disabled, we would like to once again, thank the generosity of all the fishing crews involved in last year’s tournament, for raising such a substantial sum of money for our charity.

We rely solely on donations, grants and fundraising for money to run our programmes and so the money raised last year has enabled us to look at improving our facilities for our less abled riders.  We are still in the process of having a hoist system made up for us, but have finished rebuilding our loading area, widening it in preparation for the hoist to be installed and making the ramp more user friendly for wheelchairs.

We wish you all good luck in this year’s fishing competition and, having met a lot of the crews last year each evening of the tournament, we know this year’s charity will benefit greatly from the Tournaments amazing generosity.

Kia Ora"

 2016

"The Ohope Volunteer Fire Brigade (OVFB) wish to thank all those who sponsored, organised and fished in the 2016 Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament.  Because of your support, it was a truly successful event which raised a substantial amount of money for OVFB.  These funds have gone towards the construction of a secure storage unit and assisted the brigade in purchasing emergency service equipment, allowing us to respond to the community when you need us.  It was an honour to be the recipients of the 2016 tournament.  We wish you a safe and happy 2017 and good luck in this year's tournament. May the swells be small and the fish be big!"

Mike Christini - Chief Fire Officer, Ohope Volunteer Fire Brigade

April 2014

"On behalf of the Whakatane Emergency Response Team (WERT) which were the recipients of the proceeds of the recent Hamertons Fishing Tournament, I am writing to thank you most sincerely for selecting WERT as the beneficiaries of the event. As you will be aware WERT comes under the umbrella of the Whakatane District Council, but is a volunteer organisation. It is through the support and generosity of organisations and local businesses such as Hamertons that they are able to continue to assist in emergencies in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The amount raised from the tournament is phenomenal and is a real boost to the team. Thank you once again for sponsoring this tournament and please pass on the thanks of WDC and WERT to the tournament organisers"

Tony Bonne - Mayor

July 2013

"Through the support from the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament you help us to provide the best possible specialist palliative care and the physical, emotional and spiritual support that enables people with terminal illnesses to live every moment. Whether it's helping a patient to get the equipment they need to be cared for at home, a Specialist Hospice Nurse visit, a volunteer reading to the patient or writing their life stories or our counsellor supporting the bereaved family; your support of Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty extends a helping hand to people at the time in their lives when they need it most. Thank you so much for the hard work you put in to the tournament which ensured a huge success. Your donation will continue to make a difference to many."

Ngaire Lewis - Chief Executive, Hospice Eastern Bay of Plenty
