The Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament is an annual 7 species fishing tournament based in Whakatane.  The aim of the tournament is to raise funds for worthy Eastern Bay of Plenty charities and community organisations in a safe and enjoyable way through fun and competitive fishing and diving.  Anglers in the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament compete for prizes for 6 different species of fish – Snapper, Kingfish, Red Gurnard, Trevally, Tarakihi, and Kahawai  and we have a Red Crayfish category for divers.

The aim of the tournament is to have a fun, enjoyable and social 3 days of fishing and diving whilst in the background assisting each years’ chosen charity by raising funds that enable them to carry on vital works within the community.  Your entry fee for the tournament is as good as a donation to a local charity! We return the proceeds of the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament to your local community.  Each year our participants get to vote for the charity or

community organisation they want to support the following year.  In true democratic style the winner of the vote becomes the beneficiary organisation for the tournament the following year.

Hamertons Lawyers of Whakatane are the major and naming sponsor of the fishing tournament, but the tournament itself is run by a group of volunteers with the goal of raising necessary funds for various charities and community organisations doing great work within the Eastern Bay of Plenty community.  We also have a large number of further sponsors to whom we are extremely grateful.  These people and businesses ensure the ongoing viability of both the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament and local charities and community organisations.

Over the past 10 years the Hamertons Whakatane Charity Fishing Tournament has raised over $225,000.00 for local charities. These are the amounts that have been given to our Major Charities, that the Anglers had voted to support.
